Green rind. Pink middle. Poppy seeds doing their small, specific job. The layers are poured by hand, so every slice has its own cross-section.

Cold process soap, made in Adelaide and cured for six weeks. It smells like cold watermelon on a hot day. The poppy seeds add a little texture. This is still soap, not fruit.

What’s in it

Beef tallow helps give the bar firmness and a creamy lather. Rice bran and olive oils contribute to a mild-feeling cleanse. Coconut oil helps create cleansing lather; palm oil contributes firmness; castor oil helps support a stable lather. Shea butter adds to the creamy feel. The scent, colour and extra ingredients vary by bar, so check the full ingredient list for this one.

How it’s made

Each batch starts with measured oils, water and sodium hydroxide. The cooled lye solution is blended with the oils until the mixture thickens, then poured into moulds. For this bar, the two scented layers are poured separately. Once firm, the soap is unmoulded and cut by hand in Adelaide, then left to cure for six weeks before it’s ready for bath time.
